Intended as an “all-in-one” virtual aviation accessory, NavSim is a standalone Windows/PC application that runs on your local machine, but not necessarily on the same PC that hosts the Flight Simulator. As such, NavSim could be a valuable tool for flight-schools and instructors.
NavSim’s primary display is a visual, interactive moving map of the world, in which all relevant cartographic and navigational data is plotted. Similar to a GPS display, NavSim offers rich visualization with an assortment of features, including airport and navigational aid display, "measuring tape", and more.
From within NavSim, you can connect to a running instance of Microsoft Flight Simulator X via SimConnect to obtain real-time information about the flight in progress, and the weather. You can also monitor FSD-based online ATC networks, such as VATSIM or IVAO, and show their online members including pilots, ATC controllers, and observers.
